I 30 Dec 1758 - 1 Jan 1759. Lease and Release whereby for £640 Thomas [II] Hunt (of London, merchant; only son of Thomas [I] Hunt of Coventry, esq. [, mercer and] alderman, deceased) conveyed to Samuel [I] Oldham (of Coventry, silkman) inter alia [originals are CCA/2/3/203/17-18] closes (formerly diverse small ones) outside Cook Street Gate, adjoining thereto and lying between it and Bishop Street Gate, once occupied by Ann Ferne (widow) but then by John Orton; to be held subject to a £4/8/4 fee farm rent payable to Holy Trinity feoffees, to 2/- per annum rentcharge to the Freeschool trustees; for 5/-, Elizabeth Clarke (of Coventry, widow; executrix of her late husband James Clarke of Coventry, perukemaker) transferred to Robert Abney (of Coventry, silkman) the residue of the 1,000-year term, assigned to her husband when Thomas [I] Hunt purchased the premises, having come to vest in Julius Olds (mercer) and James Towers (flaxdresser). II 9 Mar 1771. Will of Samuel [I] Oldham which, reciting that I's moneys were taken from an account which the testator had held jointly with his late brother [the silkman] Thomas [I] Oldham, left the inheritance to his nephew Samuel [II] Oldham provided that he reached 24 years of age. 26 Jun 1771. Probate. III 6 Jan 1780. Quitclaim whereby, having recited: firstly II; and secondly, that Samuel [II] Oldham (of Coventry, gentleman [tanner], a nephew of Samuel [I] Oldham, deceased) had exceeded 24: therefore for 10/- Thomas [II] Oldham (late of Coventry, silkman but then of Birmingham, Warwickshire, merchant; eldest son and heir of Thomas [I] Oldham and a nephew of Samuel [I] Oldham, both deceased) released the close to him. IV 16 Dec 1811. Will of Samuel [II] Oldham, which left his nephew Thomas [III] Oldham inter alia the close. V 3 Jul 1817. Limited Letters of Administration of the effects of Robert Abney, granted to William Prime (of Coventry, banker's clerk). VI 7-8 Jul 1817. Lease and Release with Assignment of Mortgage by Demise for 1,000 Years in Trust to Attend the Inheritance whereby, having recited: firstly, that Lambert Horsfall (of Coventry, ribbon-manufacturer) had agreed to buy the premises for £1,500 for reconveyance to his appointee; and secondly, that Lambert Horsfall acted as agent for Henry [usually Harry] Chetham (of Coventry [,liquormerchant]; agent to Messrs. Pickfords, carriers): therefore (in consideration of £1,500 paid by Henry Chetham to L. Horsfall and 5/- by Edward Reynolds (of Coventry, ironmonger) to Thomas [III] Oldham (of Cock Lane, Holloway, Middlesex, gentleman; devisee of Samuel [II] Oldham of Coundon, Warwickshire as to the premises)) Thomas [III] Oldham consigned the premises to Edward Reynolds as Henry Chetham might appoint: moreover, having recited: - thirdly, that the 11 Sep 1700 mortgage by demise for 1,000 years [CCA/2/3/203/1] which Joan Ebrall made with Thomas Bayley [gentleman] for inter alia the premises had come to Robert Abney in trust for Samuel [I] Oldham to attend the inheritance; and fourthly, V: therefore for 10/- William Prime assigned the tem to Thomas Minster (of Coventry, gentleman [solicitor]) for the term's residue. VII 25 Mar 1818. Lease and Release whereby, having recited VI, for £1,500 paid by Lambert Horsfall and 5/- by his trustee William Prime, Henry Chetham conveyed the close to them. VIII 28-28 Sep 1819. Lease and Release whereby (in consideration of £730 paid by John Derwas Haines (dyer) and 5/- by his trustee Edward Reynolds (ironmonger), both of Coventry, both to Lambert Horsfall, and of 10/- by John Derwas Haines and Edward Reynolds to William Prime) W. Prime conveyed to John D. Haines and E. Reynolds land with a ropewalk which was part of I's close, which, with other parts of the close, had been lately built upon by Edward Archer, Thomas Horsfall [silkman], Lambert Horsfall, Richard Clements and Thomas Jellings [brickmaker], and which were lately occupied by William Squires (innholder) and - Astley (ropespinner) but then by J.D. Haines, - Astley, and Thomas Mills: furthermore, having recited V, for 5/- Thomas Minster assigned the term to William Lambley (of Coventry, winemerchant); L. Horsfall covenanted to produce deeds. IX 23-24 Jun 1820. Lease and Release with Assignment of Mortgage by demise for 1,000 Years in Trust to Attend the Inheritance whereby (in consideration of £201 [sic] paid by Henry Wheatley (of Coventry, silkdyer) to John Derwas Haines and 5/- apiece by him to John D. Haines and Edward Reynolds) J.D. Haines and E. Reynolds conveyed to Henry Wheatley and his trustee Joseph Brown (of Coventry, engraver) (a) 404 square yards (bounded north by Thomas Jellings' premises, south by land which J. Haines had conveyed to Benjamin Lapworth, east by the road from Cook Street Gate to Bishop [Street] Gate, west by (b)), (b) 304 square yards (bounded north by Haines' land, south by a 19-foot wide road, east by (a) and west by a 16-foot wide road) and (c) several other pieces (625 square yards) near (b) (bounded north by Haines' land, south by the 19-foot road, east by the 16-foot one and west by another 16-foot road) - all part of the close lately occupied by Haines et al but sold for building land; Haines covenanted to indemnify against the £4/8/4 fee-farm and all other rents payable to Holy Trinity feoffees, and against the 5/- Freeschool rentcharge; moreover, having recited VIII, for 5/- William Lambley transferred the term to William Prime; Haines covenanted to produce deeds. X 12-13 Sep 1820. Lease and Release by way of Security whereby for 5/- Henry Wheatley and Joseph Brown consigned to Joseph Troughton, Charles Atkins Newcomb, James Troughton and Bryan Troughton (of Coventry, bankers), to secure a maximum of £600, messuages built upon IX's plots and the ground itself, upon trust for sale to satisfy such sums as H. Wheatley might by himself or with others owe their bank. XI PA1681/7/7. XII PA1681/7/8. XIII 15 Jun 1821. Assignment whereby, having recited: firstly, that a bankruptcy commission dated 22 May 1821 against Henry Wheatley (of Coventry, silkdyer) had been directed to Shirley Steele Farmer Perkins (esq.) and Thomas Minster and John Twist (gentlemen [solicitors]), along with Richard Gresley (esq.) and John Carter (gentleman [solicitor]);secondly, that Shirley Farmer Steele Perkins, Thomas Minster and John Twist had found that Henry Wheatley owed Troughtons' trade-assignees over £100; thirdly, that Shirley Farmer S. Perkins et al had placed an advertisement in the "London Gazette" for all of H. Wheatley's creditors who were owed just £10 or more to meet at the "King's Head", Coventry on 15 Jun 1821 [sic] to choose assignees, hence were elected David Shakespeare Waters (winemerchant) and Thomas Banbury junior (shag-manufacturer), both of Coventry; and thirdly, that Wheatley possessed inter alia Dagley's Croft (7a. 2r. 0p.) and another 3r. at Chilvers Coton, Warwickshire (occupied by him or his undertenants) and Swanswell Terrace, Coventry messuages (likewise held): therefore for 5/- Shirley F.S. Perkins et al transferred the premises to David Shakespeare Waters and Thomas Banbury junior, subject to prior mortgages.
