An executor of his father-in-law Thomas Diston according to the latter's 1721 will (see PA101/8/17). A chamberlain, 1705. He was a member of the Mercers' Company in 1711 - see BA/A/B/67/2. With William Stanley, he tenanted the Priory dyehouse and barn - see PA96/12/2. He participated in an indenture of return for city M.P.s, 1701 (PA96/59/2). Cater was a mortgage-assignee when Diston bought a long cottage in Bayley Lane in 1702 - see CCA/2/3/439/25. CCA/2/3/34/3-4 show that Cater was mortgage-assignee for Whitefriars' Lane property. He had an Earl Street house (see CCA/2/3/474/14(c)) and in 1721 occupied a Fleet Street one in succession to his father-in-law Thomas Diston (q.v.) (see PA2770/28/1).
