Since 1995 the Christian Council of Mozambique has been collecting weapons left over from the war found by civilians. The weapons are exchanged for agricultural, domestic or construction tools, but some of them are deactivated and given to artists like Mabunda.
Mabunda uses the weapons to create thrones, masks and sculptures. His work is both a protest against the violence as well as a reflection on the power of art to change society in a positive way and the resilience of African people.
