Banner from the Women's Co-operative Guild, Midland Section. The Guild was formed in 1883 as part of the Co-operative movement. its aim was to educate women in the principles and practices of Co-operation and to work for the improvement of the status of women. The Guild were influential in campaigns to get maternity benefits for women in the 1911 National Insurance Act and also campagined for infant welfare facilities. After the First World War the Guild campaigned for peace and introduced the white peace poppy in 1933. The white poppy recalls all victims of war, both civilian and from the armed services, in all countries. This banner shows white and red poppies.
